WASHINGTON, July 2, 2002 – Marrone Pasta Corp., a
Carmel, N.Y., establishment, is voluntarily recalling approximately 3,150
pounds of chicken ravioli that contain an undeclared allergen (eggs), the
U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service
announced today.
Eggs are known allergens. Persons who have an
allergy or severe sensitivity to eggs run the risk of possible allergic
reactions if they consume this product.
The products subject to recall are 20-ounce
packages of "Pasta Del Mondo, CHICKEN RAVIOLI." Each package bears "P-4702"
inside the USDA seal of inspection.
The ravioli was produced prior to June 19, 2002
and distributed to retail stores in New York.
"We want consumers who are allergic to eggs to be
aware of the recall," said William J. Hudnall, acting FSIS administrator.
"People with sensitivities to eggs may wish to check their freezers for the
recalled product."
The problem was discovered by an FSIS inspector.
Media and consumers with questions about the
recall may contact Frank Marrone, company president, at (845) 225-8889.
Consumers with other food safety questions can
phone the toll-free USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 1-800-535-4555. Hotline
services are available in English and Spanish and can be reached from 10
a.m. to 4 p.m. (Eastern Time), Monday through Friday. Recorded food safety
