Arkansas Firm Recalls Chili Tortilla Product
For Possible Contamination With Plastic
WASHINGTON, May 1, 2002 – Tyson’s Foods, Inc., a
Rogers, Ark., firm, is voluntarily recalling approximately 1,800 pounds of fully
cooked, frozen chili tortilla product that may be contaminated with pieces of
plastic, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service
announced today.
The products subject to recall are 3.65 pound boxes
of "Market Day, Fully Cooked, CHILI CRISPITOS, A Tightly Rolled Flour Tortilla
With A Chicken Chili Filling." Each package bears a code "0302CNQ0823" or
"0302CNQ0800," followed by the establishment code, "P7221." Each box also
contains the USDA seal of inspection.
The chili tortilla product was produced on Jan. 30
and distributed to Market Day, a food service customer in Chicago, Illinois.
Market Day further distributed the product to consumers via Internet sales and
organization fundraising sales in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan,
Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey and Wisconsin.
"Because of the potential for injury, we want
consumers to be aware of the recall," said William Hudnall, acting FSIS
administrator. "Consumers who have concerns about the product are urged not to
eat it and notify the company."
Tyson’s Foods Inc., notified FSIS after being alerted
to the potential contamination by Market Day.
FSIS has received no reports of illness associated
with consumption of this product. Anyone concerned about an injury should
contact a physician.
