WASHINGTON, May 23, 2001 -- Rymer Meat, Inc., a Chicago,
Ill. firm, is voluntarily recalling an additional 161,000 pounds of frozen
pork loin chops because they contain undeclared
allergens (corn flour, eggs, non-fat milk) and undeclared ingredients
(corn starch and monosodium glutamate or MSG), the U.S. Department of
Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced today.
Today’s action is an expansion of the May 16 recall of 78,000 pounds of
frozen pork loin chops.
Corn flour, eggs, and non-fat milk are each
known allergens. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to any
of these items run the risk of possible allergic reactions if they consume
these products.
MSG is used as a flavor enhancer in a variety of foods prepared at
home, in restaurants, and by food processors. Some people who have eaten
foods containing MSG have reported adverse reactions.
The products being recalled are 30 lb. cases of "DAR FOODS RAW
BREADED BONE IN PORK LOIN CHOP" and "DAR FOODS BONE IN PORK LOIN
CHOP FRITTERS." Each case bears the establishment number
"6972" inside the USDA seal of inspection and the product code
"D20216."
A lot code also appears on the case. Product production dates and
