Ohio Firm Recalls Soup for
Possible Contamination with Metal
WASHINGTON, March 30, 2001ConAgra
Grocery Products Co., an Archbold, Ohio., firm, is voluntarily recalling approximately
271,000 pounds of chicken noodle soup that may be contaminated with metal, the U.S.
Department of Agricultures Food Safety and Inspection Service announced today.
The product being recalled is
18.75-ounce cans of "Marie Callenders HEARTY CHICKEN N HOMESTYLE
NOODLES" soup. Each package bears "EST. P-91" in the USDA seal of
inspection, and a date code that begins with "023L." The product was produced
and packaged Feb. 3, 2000, and distributed to retail stores in California, Arizona, Utah,
New Mexico, Nevada, and Colorado.
"We urge consumers to check their
cupboards," said Thomas J. Billy, FSIS administrator. "If consumers find this
product, they should not eat it, but return the product to the point of purchase."
The problem was identified through consumer
complaints to the company.

USDA RECALL CLASSIFICATIONS
Class I This is a
health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the
product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.
Class II This is a
health hazard situation where there is a remote probability of adverse health consequences
from the use of the product.
Class III This
is a situation where the use of the product will not cause adverse health consequences. |
