CPSC, Cables To Go Announce Recall of Power Adapters Sold with Go!Data Drive Enclosures

The following product safety recall was conducted voluntarily by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Customers should stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: AC power adapters sold with Go!Data 3.5-inch Hard Drive Enclosures

Units: About 3,100

Retailer: Cables To Go, of Dayton, Ohio

Hazard: A component inside the adapters can overheat, posing a risk of fire or electrical shock.

Incidents/Injuries: Cables To Go has received five reports of adapters overheating, including one report of the carpet beneath the adapter being damaged. No injuries have been reported.

Description: The recall involves AC power adapters sold with Go!Data 3.5-inch IDE external hard drive enclosures. The AC adapters were sold only with the drive enclosures. "PRiver" or “MoreTec” is written on the enclosures.

Sold at: The Cables to Go Web site, other Web retailers and computer and electronics stores nationwide from May 24, 2004 through February 21, 2005 for about $55.

Manufactured in: Taiwan

Remedy: Consumers should unplug the AC adapter from the electrical outlet and stop using the product immediately. Contact Cables To Go for information on receiving a free replacement unit.
