California Firm Recalls Chicken Products Because Of UndercookingWASHINGTON, June 6, 2002 – Huxtable’s, doing business as Huxtable's Kitchen, Incorporated, a Vernon, CA, establishment, is voluntarily recalling approximately 4,000 pounds of undercooked chicken products used in salads, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced today. The products being recalled are:
Each package also bears "P-11079" inside the USDA seal of inspection. The product was produced on or before June 6, 2002 and was distributed to retail stores in the following counties, located in the following states: Arizona (Pima and Maricopa), California (Los Angeles, Riverside, San Diego, Orange, San Luis Obispo, Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Bernardino) and Nevada (Clark). "Because of the potential for foodborne illness from consumption of undercooked poultry, consumers should not eat this product and return it to the point of purchase," said Linda Swacina, acting FSIS administrator. "USDA is informing the public so consumers can check their refrigerators and freezers." The problem was discovered by the company. No illnesses or injuries associated with consumption of the product have been reported. Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a physician immediately.
