WASHINGTON, April 19, 2001- Bryan Foods
Inc., a West Point, Miss., firm, is voluntarily recalling approximately
18,500 pounds of "Ball Park" brand frankfurters that are
incorrectly labeled, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety
and Inspection Service announced today.
The products being recalled are 1 lb. packages of "Ball Park Beef
Franks." Each package contains 8 franks. Package labels are marked
with "EST 780" and "USE BY JUN 07 F34."
The product was produced on March 22, 2001, and distributed to retail
establishments in Florida, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Oregon, Tennessee, and
Washington.
The product label incorrectly lists beef as the only meat ingredient.
The franks are made with beef, pork, and turkey.
"FSIS ensures that meat and poultry products are safe, wholesome,
and accurately labeled," said Thomas J. Billy, FSIS administrator.
"We urge consumers to return the product to the point of
purchase."
Bryan Foods Inc. notified FSIS of the mislabeling.
