California Firm Recalls Burritos
for Possible Contamination with Ammonia
WASHINGTON, April 6, 2001--Camino Real Foods
Inc., a Vernon, Calif., firm, is voluntarily recalling approximately 40,300 pounds of
burritos that may be contaminated with ammonia, the U.S. Department of Agricultures
Food Safety and Inspection Service announced today.
The products being recalled are:
- 5 oz. "TINAS Red Hot Beef BURRITO," individually sealed in cellophane.
Each package label is marked with "EST. 9887" and a date code of
"U10603" or "V10603."
- 10 oz. "TINAS Red Hot Beef BURRITO," individually sealed in cellophane.
Each package label is marked with "EST. 9887" and date code "V10603."
The products were produced on March 6, and
distributed to retail stores in Arizona, California, Indiana, Michigan, Utah, and
Wisconsin.
"We urge consumers to check their
refrigerators and freezers," said Margaret OK. Glavin, acting FSIS
administrator. "If they find any of the products listed above, consumers should not
eat them, but return them to the point of purchase."
The problem was discovered through consumer
complaints to Camino Real Foods Inc. Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a
physician.
