Campbell Mexican Style Lasagna Recalled NationwideWASHINGTON, Aug. 9, 1996--Campbell today voluntarily recalled approximately 43,000 packages of Mexican style lasagna containing egg that was not listed on the ingredient statement, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced. Egg products can cause mild to serious reactions in persons allergic to eggs. All packages of Campbell's "Lasagna Mexicana with Chicken" are being recalled. Campbell distributed the 2- ½ pound packages of the frozen "Lasagna Mexicana With Chicken" nationwide. "Because of the potential hazard to persons allergic to egg products, we urge consumers sensitive to eggs to avoid the recalled product," said Thomas J. Billy, USDA's associate administrator of USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service. "We urge consumers sensitive to eggs who may have purchased the product to return it to the place of purchase," Billy said. USDA was notified of the problem when the company discovered that the product was produced with noodles containing egg. Egg is not listed on the label listing of ingredients. Consumers with questions about the recall may phone the toll-free USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 1-800-535-4555. The Hotline can be reached from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Eastern Time) Monday through Friday. This number also provides access to a telecommunications device for the deaf and hearing impaired.
