CINCINNATI FIRM RECALLS BEEF PRODUCTS FROM LOCAL AREAWASHINGTON, March 27, 1996--Queen City Sausage & Provision, Inc., a Cincinnati, Ohio, food processing firm, is voluntarily recalling about 29,150 pounds of beef frank, beef sausage and beef bologna products that may contain unlabeled pork or turkey, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced today. All "Queen City Sausage" brand beef-only frank, sausage, or bologna products are being recalled. The following "Queen City Sausage" products are included in the Safety Recalls, "Beef Franks," "Beef Smoked Sausage," "Hot Beef Smoked Sausage," "Skinless Hot Beef Smoked Sausage," "Skinless Beef Smoked Sausage," and "Beef Bologna." "EST. 6838" appears inside the USDA inspection seal on the label. "Although the potential health risk is minimal, we are alerting the public for the benefit of consumers who wish to avoid eating certain meats, such as pork or turkey," said Michael R. Taylor, USDA's acting under secretary for food safety and also FSIS administrator. "Consumers who wish to return the product should take it to the place of purchase." The problem was discovered when USDA testing confirmed the presence of unlabeled pork and turkey in some products. Consumers with questions about the recall may phone the toll-free USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 1-800-535-4555. The Hotline can be reached from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Eastern Time) Monday through Friday. This number also provides access to a telecommunications device for the deaf and the hearing impaired. |
