Lake Champlain Chocolates Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Peanuts in Five Star Fruit & Nut BarsContact: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Burlington, VT -- March 29, 2005 -- Lake Champlain Chocolates (LCC) is issuing a voluntary product recall for Five Star Fruit & Nut Bars because they may contain undeclared peanuts. People who have an allergy or sensitivity to peanuts or peanut butter run the risk of a serious or life threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product. This lot of Lake Champlain Chocolates Five Star Fruit & Nut Bars, with a weight of 2 ounces and a lot number of 05056 printed on the side of the bar wrapper, was distributed through retail stores in the following states: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Washington DC, and Wisconsin. The issue was discovered when LCC received three customer comments that the Five Star Fruit & Nut Bars they purchased did not contain the hazelnut, pecans, cherries, and dark chocolate expected, but instead contained peanut butter and milk chocolate. Subsequent investigation indicated the wrong wrapper being used caused the issue. No illnesses have been reported in conjunction with this product. Lake Champlain Chocolates declares that the problem has been corrected and emphasizes that no other LCC products or batch codes of Five Star Fruit & Nut Bars were affected. Lake Champlain Chocolates apologizes for any inconvenience to its consumers and customers. |
