Pentapco Recalls Garment Steamer

WASHINGTON, DC--In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Pentapco, Inc., of Elizabeth, NJ, is recalling the electric garment steamer, model numbers Y1211 and Y1237 marketed under the trade name "Simplicity Deluxe Garment Steamer" because reported leaks from the fill plug found on the back of the steamer have caused burns to users of the steamers.

CPSC was informed of this potentially unsafe product by Pentapco, Inc. as a result of consumer reports of the steamer's fill plug popping out, causing steam and/or hot water to spray out. The company reports eight burn injuries to the hands, arms, face and/or other parts of the body.

Approximately 5,600 Simplicity Deluxe Garment Steamers were sold in fabric stores nationwide since August 1989.

Pentapco will refund the full purchase price of the steamer. To receive a refund consumers should return the steamer to the place of purchase or send it to: Steamer Refund, c/o Pentapco, Inc., 963 Newark Ave., P.O. Box 261, Elizabeth, NJ 07207. Customers returning the steamer by mail should receive their refund within four to six weeks. Consumers should direct their questions about this recall to Marilyn Horne at Pentapco, Inc. on 1-800-631-5395.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is announcing this recall as part of its mission to protect the public from unreasonable risks of injury and death associated with consumer products. The Commission's objective is to help reduce the estimated 28.5 million injuries and 21,600 deaths that are associated each year with the 15,000 different types of consumer products under CPSC'S jurisdiction.
