CPSC, Bits and Pieces Announce Recall of Metallic Motion Lamps

The following product safety recall was voluntarily conducted by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Consumers should stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Metallic Motion Lamp

Units: About 2,100

Manufacturer: Superlines International, Taiwan R.O.C.

Hazard: The lamp may shatter in use, causing a threat of serious injury from glass.

Incidents/Injuries: There have been seven reported instances of the lamps shattering in use, including one report of minor cuts.

Description: The lamps are rocket shaped with metallic wax, which becomes molten when it heats up while the lamp is in use. The wax and the matching trim on the lamp may be red, silver or blue. The colored trim is on both the base and top of the lamp.

Sold at: Bits and Pieces catalog or www.bitsandpieces.com from October 2004 through December 2004 for about $20.

Manufactured In: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately discontinue use of this product, and contact Bits and Pieces to arrange for its return and for a full refund. Product purchasers are being notified directly by Bits and Pieces.
