CPSC, Tristar Products Inc. Announce Recall of Electric Pressure WashersThe following product safety recall was conducted voluntarily by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Consumers should stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed. Name of Product: Turbo Tiger Power Washer Units: 1,000 Importer: Tristar Products Inc., of Fairfield, N.J. Manufacturer: Zhejiang Anlu Cleaning Machinery Co. Ltd., of China Hazard: These electric pressure washers do not have a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) on the power cord, which poses a serious electrocution hazard if the unit comes into contact with water. Incidents/Injuries: One consumer reported loss of control resulting in a tip over. The consumer received a black eye, along with cuts and bruises. Description: None. Sold by: Tristar Products Inc. through direct-response television commercials shown nationwide, as well as on Tristar’s Web site www.tvinventions.com. They were sold between June 2002 and June 2003 for about $190, including shipping and handling. Turbo Tiger units sold through The Home Shopping Network or other sources that already have a GFCI at the end of the power cord are not included in this recall. Manufactured In: China Remedy: Consumers should stop using the electric pressure washers immediately. Tristar will send consumers a portable GFCI that can be attached to the end of the power cord, which will provide consumers with shock protection. If you purchased your pressure washer from a pre- recorded television commercial or www.tvinventions.com and you have not received the portable GFCI, please contact Tristar to receive a GFCI.
